Tracey Ryniec was born and raised in the Chicagoland area, the only daughter of a chemical salesman dad and a personal trainer mom. She has two brothers, both of whom taught her the vital things in life: the difference between a curve ball and a slider and when to use a nine iron versus a pitching wedge.

She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with a degree in history. She then studied the Middle East in the Near Eastern Studies Department at Princeton before obtaining a Masters Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago with a specialization in the Persian Gulf countries.

After graduation, she worked in Washington DC at the National Security Archive, a non-profit agency, on military and intelligence issues pertaining to Saddam Hussein and the build-up to Gulf War I in the early 1990s. She subsequently graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

As a lawyer, Tracey was a litigator, practicing in Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Chicago representing a range of clients, including Fortune 100 companies and small tech start-ups.

The Market Updates began in 2001 followed by the first model portfolio, Tracey’s Thrilling Thirty, published in January of 2003.

In addition to Tracey’s Market Update, Tracey has also been a contributing editor writing on securities matters, including insider trading and illegal short selling, for the bi-monthly publication The PIPEs Report (Private Investment in Public Equity) and has contributed to the Small Cap Report (both published by Deal Flow Media).

She is currently a value stock analyst/editor at Zacks Investments in Chicago.
